Introduction to the Hive

Welcome to The Groove Hive! This has been a long time goal of mine, to start a blog where I will dissect and share my thoughts of latest music releases, and also when live shows are happening again (we are currently in a global pandemic), reviews of shows I attend.

I'm a music lover to the core, a sponge for what's new and fresh (to me) and don't settle for one genre. I'm all over the map, and this blog will be to. I might review a local obscure jazz fusion band one day and a progressive metal band from Sweden the next. The sole purpose is to share in the appreciation for the arts. I'm also a musician and know how much goes into releasing music and sometimes you just want someone to take the time to really listen to it. (Isn't that what we all want in life? Someone to listen to us? For real 😀)

Back in high school I had a stint as a music journalist for my local newspaper (I'm from a small town in New Brunswick, Moncton, but currently live in Ottawa, ON). Every week I would head down to the Times and Transcript building and pick up my stack of cd's and my reviews would get printed in the Saturday newspaper. It was pretty sweet.

Fast forward to now, 16 years later, I'm a 33 year old mom of 3 awesome kids, wife, I run my own daycare business, and play in heavy rock band. I'm a busy woman, but one thing hasn't changed and that's my love of music. It's my biggest passion and I use it as a tool to get me through the busy days, as an escape when things are hard, as inspiration and motivation to get things done, as a way to relax, to bring back memories and spark the soul. I honestly can't imagine my life without music, whether playing or listening to it, it keeps me going.

I plan to use this blog to share some of that passion with you all. My deep thoughts when I listen to an album I've never heard before, or when I go to a show, what space I traveled to for those few moments. I'm new to blogging so bare with me as I work out the kinks and figure this thing out.

Why The Groove Hive? Well I'm a bass player and all about the locking in that groove! And I love bees so hive seems like a groovy spot to hang.

Come read what I have to say, maybe discover something new, and share your thoughts on music you might want me to check out.

"Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the Universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is good and just and beautiful." - Plato

  1. Cool. I don't have the drive to explore the way I used to so I can get in a rut sometimes. I'll be checking in to see what's "new and fresh"
